Job Background:
Our client is a growing medical communications agency that creates medical education and communication solutions for the International pharmaceutical industry. They are currently looking for an Editor to join their team.
Job Duties:
Reporting to the Senior Editorial Manager, Editors are responsible for their own projects, overseeing them through to completion. Typical projects may include managing and editing a journal supplement, editing a complete book and developing materials for educational events (eg, satellite symposia). Specific duties include: • liaising with internal staff to understand the purpose of the project, its key differentiating features and internal and client objectives for the project • liaising with internal staff regarding deliverables and schedules • ad hoc client liaison and attendance at client meetings • on-site attendance at educational events (primarily in Europe) • establishing and maintaining a style sheet for each project • performing an initial edit and arranging for a second review of copy (eg, manuscript, slide presentation) • liaising with faculty members (eg, authors, editors, presenters) and third parties (including external editors and indexers) • overseeing typesetting • checking proofs • forwarding final proofs to faculty members (eg, authors, editors, presenters) and obtaining approval to publish/present • reviewing and approving printer’s proofs and arranging for timely signoff from senior editorial staff and Creative • conducting post-project activities • arranging post-project debriefs, and compiling and circulating the notes • other tasks, as might be necessary, to support senior staff members
Job Qualifications:
Candidates must be strong communicators with editorial experience. A background working on event based projects would be an advantage. All candidates must have a scientific degree or equivalent. An Editor is expected to acquire the following skills/knowledge: • excellence in Word, including the use and building of templates • initial manuscript assessment • effective author communication • effective sponsor liaison • excellent copyediting skills, including formatting, restructuring, and rewriting • strong team-work • ability to work independently
